How should I take Allegra D?
There are many factors that determines how often and how much medicine to take such as the condition being treated and the patients age and weight. Ask your doctor or health care provider if you have questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking. It is important that you read all the information provided for you with the medication. When you get your prescription refilled, reread the information provided for you with the medication. Take Allegra D as prescribed to you by your doctor or health care provider. Do not take Allegra D in larger or smaller than the prescribed amount. Do not take Allegra D longer than recommended by your doctor or health care provider. Take the medication with a full glass of water (8 ounces) and swallow in whole. Aggrenox/Dipyridamole comes in a caplet form, do not crush, chew, break or open an extended-release tablet.
When should Allegra D not be taken?
If you have used an MAO inhibitor including isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), rasagiline (Azilect), selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam), or tranylcypromine (parnate) in the past 14 days, do not take Allegra D because serious, life-threatening side effects can occur when MAO inhibitor has not cleared from your body and cough or cold medicine is taken. Speak to your doctor or health care provider before taking diet pills, caffeine pills, or other stimulants (ie. ADHD medications). Taking both stimulants and Allegra D can increase the risk of unpleasant side effects.
What precautions should I follow when taking Allegra D?
Let your doctor know if you have the following: kidney disease, diabetes, glaucoma, heart disease or high blood pressure, diabetes, a thyroid disorder, an enlarged prostate, or problems with urination. If you are using any over the counter cold, allergy, or sleep medications ask your doctor or pharmacist first before taking Allegra D. When certain products are taken together, you may have accidentally taken too much of a certain drug. It is important to read the label of medications you use to see it the medicine contains antihistamine or decongestant. While taking Allegra D, the side effects from the medication will impair your thinking and reactions. Be careful if you need to operate a vehicle or do anything requiring you to be awake or alert. Alcohol can increase some of the side effects of Allegra D, avoid if possible.
What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Allegra D?
Before giving Allegra D to children, ask a doctor or health care provider. Misuse of cough and cold medicines can cause death in very young children.
What are the side effects of Allegra D?
Severe: Fast, pounding, or uneven heartbeat; confusion, hallucinations, unusual thoughts or behavior; severe dizziness, anxiety, restless feeling, or nervousness; increased blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision, trouble concentrating, chest pain, numbness, seizure); easy brusing or bleeding, unusual weakness, fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms; urinating less than usual or not at all.
Common: Blurred vision; dry mouth; nausea, stomach pain, constipation; mild loss of appetite, stomach upset; warmth, tingling, or redness under your skin; sleep problems (insomnia); restless or excitability (especially in children); skin rash or itching; dizziness, drowsiness; problems with ememory or concentration; or ringing in your ears.
